Spiritual Fundamentals

Emanating the things of the Holy Spirit

Being Spiritual means you are focused on and manifesting in your life the things of the Holy Spirit.

Today, those who worship God do so in spirit and truth.

God is Spirit and those who worship Him, it is necessary to worship in spirit and truth, John 4:24

Truth is seeing things as they really are.

Spirit is referring to the rational part of our being.

Pre-Requirements to be Spiritual

Only a saved person has the ability to receive the things from the Spirit of God and therefore the ability to be Spiritual.

But the soulish man does not receive the things from the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him, and he is does not have the natural ability to know them because they are spiritually discerned, 1 Corinthians 2:14

Unsaved can be rational, that is, they can use their spirit, but they cannot receive the things from the Spirit of God because they are dead to Him in their spirit, so they cannot be Spiritual.

The Framing of the Mind

What we allow in our minds, how we perceive ourselves, others, and the world around us directly affects what we do. If our mind is framed on the things that relate to the flesh, we are not going to mind the things of the Spirit since these two are contrary to each other.

Being Spiritual start with having a mind that is framed on the things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. These things are our position and possessions in the Christ and directly affect how we view ourselves, others, and the world around us. This type of mindset is one that takes God as His word and therefore begins to live accordingly.

Being Spiritual Produces Action

We cannot look at a person and identify if they are Spiritual. They have to do something in order for other to see. When the mind is properly framed on the things above and the saint begins to live life accordingly, the fruit belonging to the Spirit is produced.

But the fruit belonging to the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faith, objectivity of mind, self-control, against these there is no quality of law, Galatians 5:22, 23.

Love:

Seeking the best for the one loved. It is a type of love that is willing to sacrifice for another. This love is not to be directed at the world, 1 John 2:15, 16.

Joy:

Being content in any situation

Peace:

Having an unruffled mind

Longsuffering:

A long holding out of your anger against unreasonable people

Kindness:

Making others feel at ease

Goodness:

Doing that which is beneficial

Faith:

Taking God at His Word

Objectivity of Mind:

Keeping the mind focused on the goal or purpose

Self-Control:

Controlling one’s appetites

Maturity comes from being Spiritual

One who is mature has their senses trained to discern what is proper and what is wrong.

But solid food is for the mature, the ones through habit have trained the senses towards discerning both proper and wrong, Hebrews 5:14

Being carnal, having a mind set on the flesh, inhibits Spiritual maturity – And I, brethren, could not speak to you as Spiritual, but as carnal, as inarticulate babblers in Christ, 1 Corinthians 3:1

And we speak wisdom among the mature, but not a wisdom of this age, nor of the rules of this age, who are passing away, 1 Corinthians 2:6

One who is mature is no longer an inarticulate babbler – someone who cannot explain what they believe.

As saints, we are not to be little children in our frame of mind, but mature – although we should be inarticulate babblers in that which is wrong, 1 Corinthians 14:20.
