Therefore, when the chief priests and the officers recognized Him, they shouted, saying, “You crucify! You crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “You take Him and crucify Him yourselves, for I find no fault in Him.” John 19:6.
On Tuesday night, Christ was betrayed by Judas. He was brought before the high priest, and then before the entire council. Throughout the night, they presented false witnesses against Him and accused Him of crimes worthy of death. On Wednesday morning, they delivered Him to Pilate, determined to carry out their wicked desire to put Him to death. Although Pilate found no guilt in Jesus, at the insistence of the Jews, he handed Him over to be crucified as a common criminal.
Now, on this Thursday morning—about two thousand years ago—Christ lies in a tomb, wrapped in grave clothes, while the Jews observe the Sabbath of the feast (Leviticus 23:5).
