Kindness is an attribute of God. It is making others feel at ease. It is through His kindness that we are brought to a change in mind concerning Christ dying for our sins, being buried, and raising from the dead three days later thereby receiving through faith the salvation God has offered to all. “Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and longsuffering, being ignorant that the kindness of God brings you unto a change of the mind?”, Romans 2:4. When His kindness appeared to us, it was not through works of righteousness that we did, but according to His mercy. ” But when the kindness and the fondness of man appeared concerning our salvation from God, not out from works the ones in righteousness which we had done, but according to His mercy He saved us through washing of regeneration and renewing from the Holy Spirit.”, Titus 3:4, 5
In this day and age there is no one that is showing kindness, rather we have all gone astray. “All have turned aside, all together they have become useless. They are not doing kindness. There is not as far as one.”, Romans 3:12. This passage does not say that no expression of kindness is seen, but that no one is characterized as one doing kindness. This would be the type of person that is always kind. Rather, Scripture goes on to describe the characteristics of mankind today as those whose throat is an open grave, are deceiving with their tongues, and have poison upon the lips, while having a mouth full of cursing and bitterness. Is there one among us that can say they have never allowed anything out of their mouth that is unkind?
As a characteristic of God, kindness is also a part of the fruit of the Spirit. “But the fruit belonging to the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faith, objectivity of mind, self-control against such there is no law.”, Galatians 5:23.
In the ages to come God will continue to show the riches of His grace by the kindness He shows to the Church, Ephesians 2:7 “, in order that He should manifest in the coming ages the surpassing riches of His grace by kindness upon us in Christ Jesus.”
